Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion

A multi-unit group supporting Cornell University's institutional diversity planning initiative

2017-2018 Training

Each year, staff members in our organizations participate in mandatory diversity training to meet the university’s Belonging at Cornell goals.

For this year’s training, you are required to enroll in two activities:

  1. One facilitated training session. “Presentations with Conversations” will offer six topics from which to choose. You’ll need to fill out a survey afterward.
  1. One activity. Diversity of Thought” or “Cultural Awareness” events are offered, including tours, presentations, musical or dance performances, etc., or a cultural food event (hosted by your organization). Afterward, you’ll need to sign a roster (at ADI-specific events) or complete an attendance attestation (for public campus events). See below for details.

Registration for all activities is now open. All training and events must be completed any time before April 30, 2018.

How to Register for Training and Events

On October 18, staff members received an email from culearn@cornell.edu alerting them that the ADI FY18 activities have been assigned to them for completion. The email had the subject “CULearn Notice – You have been registered for ADI FY18 – Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion (ADI) FY18 Program.”

Use steps 3.1. through 5 below if you’re registering using the link in the email, or follow all of the steps below if you’re starting from the CULearn homepage.

  1. Log in to http://culearn.cornell.edu with your Cornell NetID and password.
  2. Select the red “Me” icon at the center of the screen.
  3. Click the title ADI FY18 – Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion (ADI) FY18 Program under Learning & Certifications.
    Notes:

    1. Two lists appear: The Presentation with Conversation Diversity Training Sessions, followed by the Diversity of Thought and Cultural Awareness Events. You must scroll down to see all of the items.
  4. Click the session title for each item to see the full description and available dates.
    1. Some items in the Cultural Awareness Events (some of the cultural food and dance events) do not yet have dates. Click Submit a Request and you will be notified when the dates are available.
  5. Click Enroll next to the event date you want.
    1. Enroll for one item in the list of facilitated sessions under the heading “Presentations with Conversation Diversity Training Sessions.”
      Note:
Facilitated sessions are limited to 43 participants each, on a first-come, first-served basis.
    2. Enroll for one item under Diversity of Thought and Cultural Awareness Events. Some performance events have a ticket cost, for which you will be reimbursed (one event per person). For instructions on getting reimbursed, see Getting Reimbursed below.

After registering for a session, you will receive an email confirming your registration. The email will contain a meeting invitation you can save to your Outlook calendar.

Two days before the class/event, you will receive a final reminder generated from CULearn.

If you have any difficulty registering for your session, email us at adi@cornell.edu.

How to Complete Your FY18 ADI Requirements (Training/Event)

  1. Complete what you registered for above as scheduled before April 30, 2018.
  2. For the facilitated training session, you will complete a survey before April 30, 2018. You must log in to CUlearn to complete the survey. Your session will not show as “completed” in CULearn until the survey is complete.
  3. For the diversity of thought or cultural awareness event, you will either sign a roster at the event or complete an attendance attestation in CULearn after the event before April 30, 2018.
    1. Events hosted specifically for ADI will have a roster to sign, which serves as your attendance record.
    2. For public campus events, you must complete an attendance attestation, which will be attached to the event in CULearn. To complete an attestation, log in to CUlearn and click on the “Me” icon. Click on the event, which shows “In Progress” under “Learning and Certifications.” Your session will not show as “completed” in CULearn until the attendance attestation is complete.

After you’ve completed all of the above requirements, your completed learning will appear on your “Me” page in CULearn under “Completed Learning.”

2017-2018 Training Sessions

Training sessions this year are called “Presentations with Conversation.” These interactive sessions are intended to be small and intimate. A facilitator will introduce the format, and the speaker will provide a 30-minute presentation. Each table will be given three questions from which to chose one to discuss for approximately 20 minutes after the presentation. Each table will have one spokesperson to relay the key themes from that table’s discussion. After this interaction, the presenter will provide observations based on the themes heard and ask for additional comments or observations from the audience.
